Final Conference completed

The 27-29th of March the final Know-How Exchange Seminar of the LED-project was held, and the location was Wismar, Germany. On the wide agenda was technical solutions, how to prevent crime by lighting, results of the test installations and site visits to the three project test areas in Germany (Rostock – Kunsthalle, Bad Doberan – Biendorf and Wismar – Rudolf Tarnow Schule).

Second KnowHow Exchange Seminar

The second of the three know-how exchange seminars of the LED-project was held in Kalmar March 29-31. Several prominent speakers were present to bring both width and depth to the seminar. Among the speakers were Pranciskus Vitta (physicist from Vilnius University), Thorbjörn Laike (environmental psychologist from Lund University), Håkon Iversen from NUDA (Nordic Urban Design Association) and the seminar was moderated by lighting architect Gad Giladi.

Topics explored were:

Light and Lighting
To contextualize the LED technology on the broader and much complex Light and Lighting context in Public Space.
Light Urban Design Development
The Public Space scale where LED Lighting may have positive interaction with the pedestrian city life.
Design Lighting and Products: Luminaries (light-fittings)
Another Scale of Design of equivalent pertinence on Public Space relates to the complementary activity “DDC Competition” Design Development Competition.

Design winners announced

LED - Light in Public Space invited Bachelor and Master Students to enter The Dark and the Street Lights Challenge, an International Design Competition for Lighting Design and Outdoor LED Luminaries (OLL) developed for a specific context and use.

The winning entry was selected and announced at the Second KnowHow Exchange Seminar in Kalmar, Sweden, end of March.

The winners of the competition are Julia Hagen and Stefan Maassen from the University of Applied Sciences, Technology, Business and Design in Wismar for their prototype “Typha”.

The winning duo wanted to connect water and land and thought of the Typha and how the shape of the Typha could be used in public lightening. Two objectives were clear in Julia and Stefan’s concept; creating safety and providing sufficient light for orientation and increasing the quality of urban spaces.
